Tiger Woods cheated on his wife.
We, the morally upstanding public, are supposed to hate him.
Michael Vick murdered dogs.
We, the morally outraged public, are supposed to hate him.
Bernie Madoff made a fortune scamming people.
We, the innocent victims, are supposed to hate him.
But Tiger Woods is also a dad. Do we hate him for that, too?
If we hate Mark Sanford for cheating on his wife, do we also hate the way he governed?
If we hate Roman Polanski for his sexual transgressions, must we also hate his films?
We’re a public that celebrates the athletic feats of people we’ll never meet…
… unless those people play for a team we hate.
We love our artists and entertainers when they delight us…
… but we hate them when they make mistakes.
Is Tiger Woods “a golfer”?
Is Tiger Woods “a womanizer”?
Is Tiger Woods a human?
What are you?

I think that one of the things we lose sight of in the ever-fractioning of society is that while people are sheep, a person is, almost never devoid of some sort of redeeming qualities.
Pointing out the ever-increasing animosity we have towards each other, the hate and anger we have boiling inside us, for whatever myriad of reasons, is taken advantage of by the talking heads and all the while, politicians use it to stay in power.
We can find common ground with our opponents, but that love, and puppies, and flowers crap doesn't translate to RATINGS.
Why do people dump on Tiger, take your pick; Jealousy, Racism, Fame, Wealth, Influence, but anyone who has ever cheated on a girlfriend or a wife really should STFU. And the rest, the other half of the population who hasn't actually cheated, well, EVERYONE has thought about it at least once.
I remember an old HATE SITE that was on the internet back when I was in High School. DO NOT GO TO THIS LINK and poke around if you are under 18, easily offended or anything, but there was one shining example of the possible GOOD that HATE can do:
http://web.archive.org/web/20001204154400/fitsh...
(I was young, and dumb, and offensive things were cool by dint of their existence. But I make no apologies for linking that site. Am I racist? Only if it's funny!)
The problem is that Hate burns itself out. Righteous anger or not, it's biologically impossible (without some sort of rage inducing chemical, or daily crushing reminder of the wrongs that have been done to you) to keep that level of animosity going. I wish we could get mad and do something really good with that anger, in changing the world for the better.
Absolutely.Everyone is human. Nobody's perfect. The sooner we can all come to terms with this, the better.
Let he who casts the first stone, and whatnot.
What am I? I'm someone who DOESN'T make tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars a year. The people you mention — who do make that kind of money — failed to understand that they had an implicit (if not explicit) responsibility to NOT do what they did, in exchange for the millions of dollars they make (or made).
I don't “hate” the people you mention. But I fully support the outrage against them, and the economic backlash against them.
So, by your explanation, our salaries dictate our morality — and, by
association, they dictate the acceptable level of hatred that can be
unleashed against us for the choices we make.
Therefore, Tiger Woods was required to be a faithful spouse because
he's a multimillionaire, but an unemployed guy is allowed to
philander?

Best Blog post I've seen in a while on this topic. I love it and agree. Also, I might add–I hope Tiger kills it at the Masters!

Probably meant to be a 'riff' on “The bigger they are, the harder they fall.” and what-not.
