This just gives me the warm fuzzies.

I think our conception of privacy needs to change, something fierce. If we keep thinking that just because Facebook has "privacy options" it isn't drillable, we're wrong. Privacy as the "right to be left alone" or not be pursued by those we don't allow is gone, if it ever existed.

I like my secrets. That's why I don't talk about them online.

I did a search for myself just the other day. And even the embarrassing stuff I've said online isn't all that bad. This "tool" that purports to show you everything you've ever done on any social site ever is pretty lacking. I don't have a lot of information on my "stalk" page. My address is in the phone book, is findable online, etc. In fact, in the comments on the local newspaper site somebody mentioned my street name (I was crusading against Red Light Cameras being installed in the City of Canton, OH where I DON'T live).

Spokeo tried to pass off 5+ year old photos from myspace as being posted just yesterday.

Have I said and done stupid crap, yes (online and off). But then again, I'm not working in any industry where I'm the public face/representative of the company to where I might be fired for my opinions.

I only used Spokeo to see what they had on me (with a 'throwaway' email address) because I really don't care about stalking everyone in my contact lists, but that's just me.
